Template Employer Letter MA Redetermination

Dear Employer,

In March 2020, the federal government declared a public health emergency (PHE) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The protections that the PHE for COVID-19 offered are ending in April 2023 which means that hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents – perhaps including some of your employees – will soon need new health insurance coverage.

Federal rules during the COVID pandemic have allowed people to stay in MassHealth even if their circumstances changed, but many current MassHealth members will lose eligibility for their coverage over the next year, as MassHealth begins to conduct redeterminations of its 2.3 million enrollees starting April 1, 2023. We are here to support you in ensuring that your employees understand their health coverage options and are enrolling in new health insurance without experiencing a gap in coverage. If you have employees who no longer qualify for MassHealth coverage and need new coverage, you have several options as an employer:

  • If health coverage is offered, an eligible employee can be enrolled in the plan.
  • If health coverage is not offered, a company plan can be created to allow employees to sign-up.
  • If coverage is not offered or there are employees that are not eligible, employees can enroll in individual coverage.

We look forward to partnering with you and the entire employer community to help ensure that your employees have health insurance as Massachusetts approaches this significant health coverage transition period.

Sincerely,
