Special Enrollment Period for Uninsured MA Residents as a result of COVID-19

The novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, poses a clear and acute threat to the health and welfare of Massachusetts residents. Responding to this threat requires adequate access to the resources necessary to receive appropriate testing and treatment. Given that health insurance coverage increases the likelihood that residents will seek out those tests and treatments, the Massachusetts Division of Insurance has announced a Special Enrollment Period effective immediately until July 23 for currently uninsured Massachusetts Residents.

  • This is a limited–time SEP for qualified individuals who are currently without insurance
  • Uninsured MA residents can enroll in health coverage
  • THIS SEP WILL NOT ALLOW CURRENTLY ENROLLED INDIVIDUALS TO SWITCH PLANS. IT IS STRICTLY TO ALLOW FOR THOSE WITHOUT COVERAGE TO OBTAIN COVERAGE
  • Enrollment deadlines:
    • To enroll July 1, must apply by June 23rd
    • To enroll August 1, must apply by July 23rd
  • There is no retroactive enrollment
  • Effective date must be the first of the month
